Please note that the hierarchy of geographic categories is:
- For New England, where Tourism Regions exist within States: New England / State / Tourism Region / City (in some cases)
- For the Republic of Ireland, where Tourism Regions extend across Counties: Republic of Ireland / Tourism Region / County / City (in some cases)
- For Northern Ireland, where the entire Country is also a Tourism Region: Northern Ireland / County / City (in some cases)
Non-geographic categories exist directly within the top-level categories Ireland and New England.
Listings can be assigned to multiple categories - for example, a restaurant could be placed in the “Dining & Drinking” category as well as the appropriate geographical category.
When adding new listings, please use the lowest-level relevant geographic category as the primary category, and (optionally) one or more of the non-geographic categories as secondary categories.
Examples:
1. New England:
For a hotel in downtown Boston, the primary category would be Downtown Boston because that is the lowest-level geographic category, being a subcategory under New England / Massachusetts / Greater Boston / City of Boston. And a secondary category could be Lodging which is a subcategory of New England.
2. Republic of Ireland.
For an event in the City of Dublin, the primary category would be Dublin (City) because that is the lowest-level geographic category, being a subcategory under Ireland / Republic of Ireland / Dublin Region / Co. Dublin. And a secondary category could be Events which is a subcategory of Ireland.
2. Northern Ireland.
For a tour operator in the City of Newry, the primary category would be Newry because that is the lowest-level geographic category, being a subcategory under Ireland / Northern Ireland / Co. Down. And a secondary category could be Tours which is a subcategory of Ireland.
